I was employed at University College London as the Preventing Sexual Misconduct Manager (later Behaviour and Culture Manager) to lead the development of an institution-wide prevention and response strategy to address sexual misconduct impacting students and staff. During this time we established sector-wide good practice and took necessary steps to improve workplace and learning culture. During this time we achieved a number of key initiatives including:
Launching reporting platform ‘Report + Support’ and 'Full Stop' campaign for bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct
Revising and implementing a sector-leading behaviour policy and relationships policy for students and staff
Increasing staff training by 50% and expanded delivery to staff and PHD Students.
Chaired the 'Calling Time on Sexual Misconduct Conference' a global first conference focusing on sharing best-practice prevention
Acted as principal investigator on a Wellcome Trust grant to evaluate the impact of a harassment workshop ‘Where do you draw the line?’
Developed and implemented a behaviour risk assessment framework to manage people and behaviour risk
Conducted gender equality research and report in Japan with UCL partner Tohoku University
Managed key external relationships with support providers such as Rape Crisis South London and Intersol Global, and worked with sector bodies including UUK and universities to advance best-practice
Provided strategic and trauma-informed advise on case management and disciplinary matters to student and staff cases
Implemented environmental investigations to addressing concerning themes and provide a clear plan of action to improve culture
I was fortunate enough to work with Kelsey at University College London (UCL) for two years from 2018. She excelled and not only raised UCL’s profile internationally as a centre of excellence in tackling bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct, but also drove work on the systems and processes to tackle these difficult and important issues within the university. To achieve this Kelsey worked with senior academic and professional service leaders right across UCL and managed, in an impressively short space of time, to get people working together across our different functions in a way that had not happened previously. Thanks to the transformations that Kelsey led, we now have a reporting system and risk assessment framework that provides UCL colleagues with far greater confidence that they will be listened to and that necessary action will be taken quickly. She left UCL having achieved an enduring culture shift that will no doubt improve people’s working lives for many years into the future.
